ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY REPRESENTATIVES TO PROVIDE UPDATE ON LARGE-CAPACITY CESSPOOL CONVERSION MANDATE
For Immediate Release December 1, 2004
LIHU`E – The Governor’s Kaua`i Advisory Committee will meet on Thursday, December 9, 2004, at 4:30 p.m., in rooms 2A & 2B of the Moikeha Bldg., 4444 Rice St., Lihu`e. The Committee will welcome Shannon FitzGerald and Laura Bose of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Harold Yee of the State Department of Health Wastewater Branch. This will be an opportunity for Kaua`i residents and businesses to learn more about the upcoming April 2005 EPA ban on large-capacity cesspools. The public is encouraged to attend.
“Many businesses and even some residences are affected by the new EPA rules regarding cesspools, and may not even be aware of it,” said James Anakalea, committee chair. “This meeting will bring more public awareness and give Kaua`i’s residents and business people an opportunity to ask questions and find solutions to meet the new EPA regulations.”
Governor Linda Lingle created advisory committees to give the neighbor islands a stronger voice in state government. The Kaua`i Advisory Committee holds monthly public meetings to seek community input and advise the Governor of important issues, budget priorities, and recommendations for state boards and commissions.
The members of the Governor’s Kaua`i Advisory Committee are James Anakalea, Linda Collins, Laura Cushnie, Kelly Banks Hoen, Vilamor Galiza, Jerry Ornellas, Barbara Smith, Matt Takata, and Leo Trinidad.
