GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $600,000 TO UPGRADE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AT WAI`ANAE INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL

For Immediate Release:  March 23, 2005

HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $600,000 to install a new electrical distribution system at Wai`anae Intermediate School.  The school’s existing system is outdated, substandard, and in constant need of repairs.  Because of the age of the electrical system, the school experiences frequent power disruptions and also poses a potential safety hazard for students and staff.  The new system will provide more reliable electrical service for the school, while having the capacity to accommodate future power needs.

“Every public school should offer a safe and comfortable environment where our students can learn, and where our teachers can focus their full attention on their students,” said Governor Lingle.  “Specifically, we want to ensure that schools and communities like Wai`anae that may have been bypassed in the past when it came to maintenance and upkeep will now receive their fair share of resources.”

The total estimated cost of the electrical system upgrade is $1,120,000.  The balance of the funds was released last November.  The project is expected to be completed in the fall of this year.
