GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $297,000 TO DESIGN NEW ADMINISTRATION BUILDING AT SUNSET BEACH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
For Immediate Release: March 24, 2005
HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $297,000 to finance the design of a new administration building at Sunset Beach Elementary School. The funds will be used to hire a design consultant for the project, which will include the new building as well as related site and infrastructure improvements.
Currently, the school is using a portable 926 square-feet structure as a temporary administration building. This is more than 5,000 square-feet below the Department of Education’s specifications for a school of this size. The DOE’s Educational Specifications and Standards for Facilities for a comparable school is 6,218 square-feet.
“Just as our students need an adequate and comfortable classroom environment in which to learn, school principals and their staff also need proper facilities in which to run their schools,” said Governor Lingle. “Principal Ruth Holmberg and her staff are doing an outstanding job with what they have, but they, along with other educators around the state, deserve a good working environment so they can properly serve our students.”
The total project cost is estimated at $2,150,000. Construction of the new facility is expected to be completed in the summer of 2007.
