GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $73,000 FOR RENOVATION OF KALIHI-WAENA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
For Immediate Release: April 12, 2005
HONOLULU – Governor Lingle has released $73,000 for the design and renovation of the existing library and music and language classrooms at Kalihi-Waena Elementary School.
The project involves renovating the language classroom and music room on the ground level of building H into a library and renovating the existing library space in building F into two classrooms, the language classroom and music room. The work includes interior renovations to the walls, floors, ceiling, electrical system, air conditioning and humidity controls, and other related work.
Currently, the existing library, located on the second floor with only stairway accessibility, is very small and inaccessible to students, staff and parents with mobility issues. Relocating the entire library into the two classroom spaces on the ground floor (near the existing computer resource center) will allow equal access to all.
After the library is relocated to the ground floor, the old library space will be renovated to provide two classrooms, with about 918 square-feet each, for the music and language programs.
“The expansion of the two classrooms and relocation of the library will better serve the educational needs of students at Kalihi-Waena Elementary School,” said Governor Lingle.
The total project cost is $300,000. The renovations are expected to be completed in August 2006.
