GOVERNOR’S MAUI ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO MEET ON APRIL 21, 2005

WAILUKU – The Governor’s Maui Advisory Committee will meet at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, April 21, 2005, at the Cameron Center, Auditorium, located at 95 Mahalani Street, Wailuku. The public is invited to attend. 

Testimonies will be received on the following business items:

Colleen O’Shea Wallace and Pualani Kamaunu Basbas will cover adult and children mental health concerns and problems.  Both Wallace and Basbas represent the Mental Health Association, a nonprofit association.

Charlene Shibuya, assistant district engineer of State Highways, Department of Transportation, will provide an update on work to bring Paia sidewalks into compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.

Milton Arakawa, director of Public Works, will give a status report on the Paia Mini-Bypass and an update on the scrap metal program, which includes abandoned vehicles and white appliances.

Governor Linda Lingle created advisory committees to give the neighbor islands a stronger voice in state government. The Maui Advisory Committee holds monthly public meetings to seek community input and advise the Governor of important issues, budget priorities, and recommendations for State Boards and Commissions.

The members of the Governor’s Maui Advisory Committee are Diane Ho, Ezekiela Kalua – vice chair, Carl Lindquist, John Henry, Jo-Ann Ridao, Grelyn Rosario, Madge Schaefer – chair, Jan Shishido, and Kalei Sombelon.
