For Immediate Release:  April 14, 2005

HONOLULU – Governor Lingle has released an additional $86,000 to provide public accessibility and safety improvements for the Hawai`i Kai Public Library.  The total cost of the project is $131,000, with $45,000 previously allotted.  The upgrades are expected to be completed by September 2005.

The funds will be used to complete accessibility improvements in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines, and other health and safety improvements.

“Public libraries are places for lifelong learning that offer a world of resources.  Moreover, Hawai`i Kai Public Library offers a variety of educational activities such as storytelling, puppet shows and poetry reading.  Therefore, it is important that we ensure these opportunities are accessible to everyone,” said Governor Lingle.  “This may seem like a small project, but it will make a big difference for residents.”

The Hawai`i State Public Library System (HSPLS) is celebrating National Library Week 2005 (April 10 -16).  Visit the HSPLS Web site for more information:  www.librarieshawaii.org.
