HONOLULU — Lt. Governor James R. “Duke” Aiona, Jr. and community leaders will visit fifth grade classes across the state to conduct Teach-Ins, a national program which addresses harmful effects of alcohol use.  The classroom visits are designed to educate youngsters, before they become teens, about the dangers to young bodies associated with drinking alcohol.

“It’s critical to reach young children early before they even start thinking about trying alcohol,” said Lt. Governor Aiona.  “We appreciate the broad support of our community leaders and the schools for participating in this important effort to steer our youth away from alcohol.”

The Teach-Ins are part of a national effort coordinated by Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free, an organization of governors' spouses, federal agencies and public and private groups, whose focus is to prevent the use of alcohol by children ages 9 to 15.  Lt. Governor is Hawai`i’s representative to the organization.
