GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $1,104,900 FOR ACCESSIBILITY IMPROVEMENTS AT PUBLIC SCHOOLS ON O`AHU
HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $1,104,900 for accessibility improvements at Farrington High School, Lunalilo Elementary School, and Waimanalo Public and School library. These funds will ensure the schools comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and allow physically challenged students to comfortably attend school.
At Farrington High School, $54,500 will fund the design and consultative services for the construction of accessible restrooms in the cafeteria (Building H). The work includes interior building demolition, renovations to provide the accessible restrooms, improvements to provide accessible routes to the restrooms, and other related work. When finished, special education students in the adjacent building (Building U) will also be able to utilize the restrooms. The total project cost is $222,000 and is expected to be completed by July 2006.
At Lunalilo Elementary School, additional funds of $105,000 will provide public accessibility to various school facilities including the administration building, cafeteria, library, grass playfield, outdoor assembly area, and a designated classroom. The total project cost is $481,000. Construction is expected to conclude by June 2006.
At Waimanalo Elementary School, $45,400 will provide ADA transition plan and safety improvements to the public and school library. The total project cost is $90,400. Construction is expected to conclude by July 2005.
“These projects are of the utmost importance, as they ensure that all students will be educated in a comfortable and safe environment,” said Governor Lingle.
