GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $1,754,200 FOR TELECOMMUNICATION IMPROVEMENTS AT PUBLIC SCHOOLS ON O`AHU AND KAUA`I

HONOLULU- Emphasizing her Administration’s commitment to provide Hawai`i students with the best possible learning environment, Governor Linda Lingle released $1,754,200 to upgrade telecommunication systems at Wai`anae Intermediate School (O`ahu), Sunset Beach Elementary (O`ahu), and Ele`ele Elementary (Kaua`i).

Currently, the telecommunications systems at the three schools do not meet the educational program needs.  Additional funds of $729,200 for Wai`anae Intermediate, $514,000 for Ele`ele Elementary and $511,000 for Sunset Beach Elementary will equip each school with the capability to access the internet through their own Local Area Network (LAN). These funds also include improvements to the electrical infrastructure to support the telecommunications systems.

“Our administration is committed to keeping up with today’s education needs,” said Governor Lingle.  “The telecommunication upgrades at Wai`anae Intermediate, Sunset Beach Elementary, and Ele`ele Elementary will enhance the learning resources for our students.”

The three projects are expected to be completed by May 2007.
