GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $292,000 FOR IMPROVEMENTS AT KAHALU`U ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ON O`AHU

— filed under:

HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $292,000 to remove the existing cesspools and install a new sewage disposal system at Kahalu`u Elementary School.

In March 2005, the school experienced a cesspool overflow that created a public health hazard and forced the school to close for a few days while work crews cleaned up the spillover and sanitized the area.  This improvement project will prevent overflows from reoccurring.

“It is critical to keep up with the maintenance projects at Hawai`i’s public schools, especially when they concern the health and safety of our keiki,” said Governor Lingle. “The improvements at Kahalu`u Elementary School will provide a more reliable sewage system and in turn a safer, more sanitary school for the faculty, students, and staff.”

The total project cost is $292,000.  The improvements are expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2007.
