GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $172,500 TO IMPROVE WAIALUA PUBLIC LIBRARY

For Immediate Release: December 27, 2005

HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $172,500 in construction funds to finance accessibility improvements at Waialua Public Library.

The project includes new flooring, shelving, workstations, counter tops and lockers; replacing missing roof shingles; and repairing metal gutters and circulation desk counters.

“Libraries are important centers of learning and gathering.  These investments to improve our existing library facilities will ensure open and safe access for everyone in the community,” said Governor Lingle.

The Hawai`i State Public Library System (HSPLS) listed this project as number one of their nine priorities.

“On behalf of the Waialua Public Library staff, I would like to thank the Governor for this wonderful holiday gift,” said Hawai`i State Librarian Jo Ann Schindler.  “I know that the Waialua community will be thrilled to hear the good news!”

The total project cost is $235,500.  It is expected to be completed by May 2006.
