GOVERNOR'S 2006 HAWAI`I – PHILIPPINE CENTENNIAL MISSION

Itinerary of Major Events (Updated December 30, 2005 – Subject to Change)

TUESDAY, JANUARY 3 – MANILA
Arrive in Manila.  Greeted by Ilocos Sur Governor Luis Singson, Mandaluyong Mayor Neptali “Boyet” Gonzales, and Congressman Robito Albano.  Media availability at the airport.

DAY 1 – WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 4 – MANILA
Meeting with Archbishop Angel Lagdameo of the Catholic Conference of the Philippines.
Meeting with Secretary of Foreign Affairs Alberto Romulo.
Delegation briefing and welcome reception.
Dinner and Filipino cultural show hosted by Mandaluyong Mayor Neptali “Boyet” Gonzales.

DAY 2 – THURSDAY, JANUARY 5 – MANILA
Wreath laying ceremony at Rizal Park with Defense Secretary Avelino Cruz Jr.
Meeting with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Unveiling of Centennial Commemorative Stamp at Malacañang Palace.
Media availability at Malacañang Palace.
Luncheon hosted by Dante Ang, Chairman of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas.
Visit to the National Museum.
Conferment of honorary doctorate degree in public management from University of Manila.
Dinner hosted by Manila Mayor Lito Atienza and Mrs. Atienza.
Hawai`i concert featuring Tihati’s Polynesian Review and Jasmine Trias.

DAY 3 – FRIDAY, JANUARY 6 – MANILA / ILOCOS NORTE
Keynote address at business symposium sponsored by the Mandaluyong Chamber of Commerce.
Interview on television show “Wowowee International Broadcast” with host Willie Revillame.  The show will air in Hawai`i on Friday, Jan. 6 at 7:30 p.m. on The Filipino Channel, ABS-CBN.
Arrive in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte Province. 
Welcome by Laoag officials and media availability.
Dinner and Filipino cultural show hosted by Ilocos Norte Province Governor Ferdinand “Bong Bong” Marcos, Jr.  The event will be a celebration of the Filipino Centennial and the sister state-province agreement between the people of Hawai`i and the people of Ilocos Norte that Governors Lingle and Marcos signed in February in Honolulu.

Day 4 – SATURDAY, JANUARY 7 – ILOCOS NORTE
Inauguration ceremony for the Hawai`i – Ilocos Mango Processing Plant.
Visit to the village of San Nicolas for Barangay Fiesta.
Visit to Ilocos Norte Provincial Hospital for a briefing on a joint humanitarian project involving Hawai`i and Ilocos Norte doctors.
Mahalo dinner hosted by Governor Lingle for Governor Marcos.  The event will include the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the University of Hawai`i’s College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources and Mariano Marcos State University to promote cooperative exchanges in the areas of agricultural education and research.  In addition, Kapi`olani Community College will sign a MOU with Mariano Marcos State University to advance cooperative Hawai`i – Philippines nursing education initiatives and exchange program.
Hawai`i concert featuring Tihati’s Polynesian Review and Jasmine Trias.

Day 5 – SUNDAY, JANUARY 8 – ILOCOS SUR
Breakfast meeting with Ilocos Norte mayors.
Arrive in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur.
Motorcoach tour of Port Salomague in Cabugao, where the first 15 sakadas boarded the ship for Hawai`i in 1906.
Hawai`i concert featuring Tihati’s Polynesian Review and Jasmine Trias.
Dinner and Filipino cultural show hosted by Ilocos Sur Governor Luis Singson.  The event will be attended by the Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawai`i.
Note: State Director of Agriculture Sandra Lee Kunimoto will meet with officials from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Philippine agricultural officials to explore partnership opportunities in agricultural technology, pest control, research and trade.

Day 6 – MONDAY, JANUARY 9 – ILOCOS SUR / PANGASINAN
Signing of letter of understanding and mutual cooperation between Kapi`olani Community College and University of Northern Philippines to advance cooperative Hawai`i-Philippines nursing education initiatives and exchange program.
Arrive in Dagupan City, Pangasinan Province.
Dinner and Hawai`i concert hosted by Pangasinan Province Governor Victor Agbayani. 
Signing ceremony between Kapi`olani Community College and Virgen Milagrosa University to advance cooperative Hawai`i – Philippines nursing education initiatives.
Note:  State Director of Agriculture Sandra Lee Kunimoto will be in Los Banos to preside over the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the University of Hawai`i’s College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources and the University of the Philippines to promote cooperative exchanges in the areas of agricultural education and research.

Day 7 – TUESDAY, JANUARY 10 – PANGASINAN / MANILA
Visit to Kalinga ng Ama Children’s Shelter for homeless children.
Arrive in Manila.
Meeting and military briefing by Charge d’Affaires Paul Jones, U.S. Embassy Philippines.
Keynote speech at Women’s Leader Luncheon hosted by the National Council of Women of the Philippines at the Philippine Women’s University.
Dinner and Hawai`i concert hosted by Dole Foods.  President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is scheduled to attend this event.
Return to Honolulu.
