GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $6.5 MILLION TO EXPAND AND IMPROVE MANOA PUBLIC LIBRARY
For Immediate Release: January 3, 2006
HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle recently released $6,500,000 to finance the design and construction for the expansion of the Manoa Public Library.
The overall project includes expanding the existing building, additional parking, site improvements and interior renovations. The expenditure will provide additional space for an expanded library collection and staff work area, along with a separate Children’s Room and a meeting room.
“The expansion of the Manoa Library will further accommodate community residents as well as visitors who wish to take advantage of the library’s resources,” said Governor Lingle.
The Hawai`i State Public Library System (HSPLS) listed this project as fifth of their nine priorities.
“Many thanks to Governor Lingle for her ongoing support of our public libraries and the valuable services and collections they provide to our communities,” said Hawai`i State Librarian Jo Ann Schindler. “These much needed renovation projects will help to keep our libraries safe and inviting to the public.”
The project design phase is expected to be completed in September 2006, and construction is scheduled to start in February 2007.
