GOVERNOR’S LANA`I COUNCIL OF ADVISORS TO MEET ON JAN. 24

For Immediate Release:  January 17, 2006

HONOLULU – The Governor’s Lana`i Council of Advisors will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 5:00 p.m., at the Lana`i Senior Center, located at 309 Seventh Street, Lana`i City.  The public is invited to attend.

The Council will hear presentations on state and county drug control programs:

Tamah-Lani Noh, state drug control liaison, will update the community on the Hawai`i Drug Control Plan, focusing on prevention, treatment and law enforcement strategies.

A representative from the Lana`i Police Department will provide updates on community prevention programs.

Governor Linda Lingle created Councils of Advisors to give the neighbor islands a stronger voice in state government. The Lana`i Council of Advisors holds monthly public meetings to seek community input and advise the Governor of important issues, budget priorities, and recommendations for State Boards and Commissions.

The members of the Governor’s Lana`i Council of Advisors are Cindy Arruiza, John dela Cruz, Matthew Mano, Douglas Rolefson and Nani Watanabe.
