GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $9,023,000 FOR THE WIDENING OF FORT WEAVER ROAD
For Immediate Release: January 19, 2006
HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $9,023,000 in state funds for the second phase of the Fort Weaver Road widening project.
The second phase will include the addition of two lanes, one in each direction, from the vicinity of A`awa Drive to Geiger Road. The first phase, completed in June 2005, widened Fort Weaver Road on each side of Laulaunui Street, between Farrington Highway and A`awa Drive. When completed, Fort Weaver Road will be a six-lane highway, three lanes in each direction.
“The widening of Fort Weaver Road will greatly benefit the `Ewa community by relieving traffic congestion and providing safer travel for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians,” said Governor Lingle.
“This significant project is part of our department’s commitment to Keep Hawai`i on the Move,” said Department of Transportation Director Rod Haraga.
Other improvements include the construction of turning lanes, traffic signal modifications, and new highway lighting.
The total project cost is $48,450,00, with $36,092,000 in federal funds and $3,335,000 in other funds. Expected completion is the summer of 2008.
