GOVERNOR’S EAST HAWAI`I COUNCIL OF ADVISORS TO MEET ON THURSDAY, JAN. 26

For Immediate Release: January 20, 2006

Hilo – The Governor’s East Hawai`i Council of Advisors will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, Jan. 26, 5:30 p.m. at the Hawai`i Community College Cafeteria in Hilo.

This month’s guest speaker will be Stephanie Aveiro, executive director of the Housing and Community Development Corporation of Hawai`i (HCDCH), who will brief the council on affordable housing initiatives and provide updates on the state’s efforts to address housing issues on the Big Island.

“The Governor encourages the community to attend and share concerns and ideas they may have regarding state government,” said Andy Smith, the Governor’s East Hawai`i Liaison.

The Governor’s neighbor island councils of advisors are tasked with providing the Governor with a list of short- and long-term issues and goals that should be addressed by state government over the next one-, two-, and five year periods.  The councils also identify spending priorities and potential new sources of revenue for the state, as well as recommend potential nominees from the neighbor islands to serve on state boards and commissions.

The members of the Governor’s East Hawai`i Council of Advisors are Chairman Tom Kalili, Pua Takumoto, Dylan Nonaka, Andy Baclig, Carol Van Camp, Ted Hong, Ken Ahlo, John Kai and Alton Okinaka.

Anyone requiring special assistance or accommodations to participate at this meeting may call 974-6262.  For additional information about neighbor island councils of advisors, including minutes and agendas, visit the Governor’s Web site at www.hawaii.gov/gov.
