GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $700,000 FOR NEW KIHEI HIGH SCHOOL ON MAUI

For Immediate Release:  January 24, 2006


HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $700,000 in planning funds for a new high school in Kihei, Maui, which is expected to accommodate an enrollment of approximately 1,000 students in grades 9-12. 

“This new high school has been a long-desired and much-needed project for the Kihei/Waialua community,” said Governor Lingle.  “I am excited to see it get underway and become a reality, as it will benefit students, families and teachers in Kihei.”

The planning phase of the project may include a site selection study, environmental impact statement, functional analysis and concept development, master plan report, subdivision action, and application for special permits.

The total estimated cost for the new school is $134.5 million.  It is priority number 12 of 30 in the Department of Education’s Capital Improvement Projects Implementation plan.
