For Immediate Release: February 7, 2006
HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $623,000 for the design of a new eight-classroom building at Maui Waena Intermediate School in Kahului.
The new building will include three science classrooms, three general education classrooms, one music room, and one computer resource center.
The school’s current enrollment of 1,017 students is anticipated to increase significantly due to ongoing construction of subdivisions in the surrounding Maui Lani development area.
“This new building at Maui Waena Intermediate will help meet the future growth demands of incurring enrollment growth, while ensuring students have a quality environment in which to learn,” said Governor Lingle. “Our Administration is committed to tackling the ongoing needs of school maintenance and repairs, upgrading structures to comply with modern safety and building codes, and building new facilities, such as this eight-classroom building at Maui Waena Intermediate School.”
This project is priority number 23 of 30 in the Department of Education’s Capital Improvement Project Implementation Plan.
Design is expected to begin this month.
