GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $645,000 FOR NEW BUILDING AT KEAAU MIDDLE SCHOOL

For Immediate Release:  February 14, 2006

HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $645,000 to finance the design of a new eight-classroom building at Keaau Middle School in East Hawai`i.

The new building will provide much needed space for more science classrooms and science lab facilities.  Currently, the school has only one classroom designed as a science lab.

“As we emphasize the importance of math and science education, we need to ensure our students and teachers have the adequate facilities to pursue these studies,” said Governor Lingle.  “This new building will provide more space for our students to learn about life sciences.”

This project is priority number 22 of 30 in the Department of Education’s Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) Implementation Plan dated November 2005.

The total cost of the project is estimated at $10,830,000.  The design is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
