For Immediate Release: February 17, 2006
HONOLULU – The Governor’s Lana`i Council of Advisors will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 5:00 p.m. at the Lana`i Senior Center, 309 Seventh Street, Lana`i City.
The Council will welcome State Director of Budget and Finance Georgina Kawamura, who will brief the council and public on the Lingle-Aiona Administration’s 2006 supplemental budget proposal and legislative initiatives. She will also answer questions on the process for releasing funds.
“Having the director of budget and finance meet with the public on Lana`i provides an opportunity for residents to learn more about the issues and how the budget is put together, as well as when and how funds are released once they are approved by the Legislature,” said Nani Watanabe, council chair.
Governor Linda Lingle created Councils of Advisors to give the neighbor islands a stronger voice in state government. The Lana`i Council of Advisors holds monthly public meetings to seek community input and advise the Governor of important issues, budget priorities, and recommendations for State Boards and Commissions.
The members of the Governor’s Lana`i Council of Advisors are Cindy Arruiza, John dela Cruz, Matthew Mano, Douglas Rolefson and Nani Watanabe.
