GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $350,000 FOR TRAFFIC LIGHT IMPROVEMENTS AT UNIVERSITY OF HAWAI`I – HILO

For Immediate Release:  February 24, 2006

HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $350,000 to finance the design cost to install a traffic light and related intersection improvements at the main entrance at the University of Hawai`i at Hilo on Kawili Street.

This new traffic light will increase the safety of students who park on the street and must cross the busy intersection to attend classes.

“Protecting our pedestrians is one of my top priorities,” said Governor Lingle.  “This project will increase safety for our students and the community.”

The new intersection design is expected to be completed by March 2007.
