GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $35,000 FOR LAND ACQUISITION FOR KALAHEO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ON KAUA`I

For Immediate Release:  March 2, 2006

HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $35,000 in planning funds to acquire 2.769 acres donated by the County of Kaua`i for use by Kalaheo Elementary School on Kaua`i.

The funds will be used for land acquisition studies, reports, and other proper documentation required by the Department of Land and Natural Resources, including a title search report, survey map and land description and a Phase I environmental assessment.  When completed, Kalaheo Elementary School will be able to accept the donated land parcel located near its campus.

“We are grateful to the County of Kaua`i for this generous land donation, and are committed to this project,” said Governor Lingle.  “The additional land will allow Kalaheo Elementary to expand facilities and increase opportunities for the students and faculty.”

Kalaheo Elementary School serves children from Kalaheo, Lawai Valley Estates, Lawai, Brydeswood and Kukuiolono.  The school’s enrollment is just over 500 students in grades K-5.

This project falls under priority number 29 of 30 projects identified in the Department of Education’s $100 million Capital Improvement Projects implementation plan dated Nov. 18, 2005.

The total project cost is $75,000 and is expected to be completed by December 2006.
