GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $125,000 TO AMERICAN RED CROSS HAWAI`I CHAPTER
For Immediate Release: July 3, 2008
HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released a $125,000 grant-in-aid to the American Red Cross Hawai‘i State Chapter for renovations to their headquarters.
Improvements include facility upgrades to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the addition of a disaster operation center, and renovations to the facility’s roof, air conditioner, plumbing, flooring and parking lot.
The headquarters of the American Red Cross Hawai‘i State Chapter is located near Diamond Head on O‘ahu on property leased from the State and designated by the federal government for use by the Red Cross. The facility is 30 years old.
“We are grateful to the American Red Cross and its volunteers for their partnership in helping residents and visitors during times of distress,” said Governor Lingle. “These renovations will improve their ability to assist State Civil Defense in responding to natural disasters and other emergencies.”
The total cost of the project is estimated to be $4.8 million. Other funding includes a previous State allotment of $2 million; $775,000 from Honolulu City and County; and $1.3 million in individual, corporate and foundation support. An additional $600,000 still needs to be raised.
