GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $183,000 FOR RENOVATIONS AT KEALAKEHE INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL

For Immediate Release:  March 12, 2008

HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $183,000 to complete the construction of a new two-story administration/library building and the renovation of the existing administration/library building into three classrooms at Kealakehe Intermediate School in Kailua-Kona. The funds will also be used to purchase furniture for the library and administrative offices.

The Department of Education plans to convert Kealakehe Intermediate School (grades 7-8) into a middle school (grades 6-8) as part of a statewide initiative to convert most intermediate schools into middle schools.

“The new building and converted classrooms will prepare the school for its transition into a middle school while providing students in this growing community with better school facilities,” said Governor Lingle.

These funds supplement previous allotments of $9,628,205 in design and construction funds. The total project cost is $9,811,205.

Construction is ongoing and scheduled to be completed in April 2008.
