GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $320,000 TO REPAIR EARTHQUAKE DAMAGE AT PUBLIC LIBRARIES STATEWIDE

HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $320,000 to repair public libraries on the Big Island, Maui and O‘ahu that were damaged by the October 15, 2006 Kīholo Bay Earthquake.  Repair items include cracked wall surfaces and other damaged building elements.

“This is part of a larger effort across the state to repair and coordinate funding for damages sustained by public and private buildings, residences and facilities during the October 2006 earthquake,” said Governor Lingle. “Combined with federal assistance, these funds will ensure that 10 public libraries receive the improvements they need.”

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has appropriated an additional $151,174 to this project.

Libraries included in the project are:

Big Island
Hilo Public Library
Mountain View Public and School Library
Thelma Parker Memorial Public and School Library

Maui
Kihei Public Library
Lahaina Public Library
Wailuku Public Library

O‘ahu
Hawai‘i State Library
Kāne‘ohe Public Library
McCully-Mo‘ili‘ili Public Library
Salt Lake-Moanalua Public Library

Project design is scheduled to begin in March 2008 and be completed in August 2008. Construction is scheduled to begin in December 2008 and be completed in March 2009.
