GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $721,000 FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO PAHOA PUBLIC AND SCHOOL LIBRARY

For Immediate Release:  November 19, 2008

HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $721,000 in construction funds for health and safety improvements to Pāhoa Public and School Library, including accessibility improvements to the entry area, replacement of the library’s carpeting and modifications to the exterior storm water drainage system to prevent water collection problems.

One of 13 public libraries on the Big Island, the Pāhoa Public and School Library is situated on the Pāhoa High and Intermediate School campus.

“This project will maintain and improve a resource valued by both East Hawai‘i students and the larger community,” said Governor Lingle. “Public libraries continue to serve an important role in our state. Therefore, they must be kept safe and provide a comfortable environment in which our residents and students can read, do research and learn.”

The total project cost is estimated to be $1,096,328, which includes previous allotments of $79,500 for design and $295,828 for construction.

Design work for the project was completed in October 2008. Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2009 and be completed in September 2009.
