For Immediate Release: December 12, 2008
HONOLULU - Governor Linda Lingle today signed a State Disaster Proclamation for the counties of Kaua‘i, Maui and Honolulu to aid in recovery from the damage caused by high winds, heavy rains, and flooding that began Wednesday, December 10, 2008.
“We have a great concern for those who have been impacted by the severe weather,” said Governor Lingle. “This action will allow us to begin the recovery process as well as provide a means for repairing public infrastructure.”
A State Disaster Proclamation provides resources for disaster response and recovery. Resources may include activation of the Hawai‘i National Guard and access to housing relief and loan programs for people whose homes and/or businesses have sustained damage as a result of the storm.
Civil Defense and other government and private agencies continue to conduct damage assessments in affected communities.
