GOVERNOR LINGLE TO HOST "TALK STORY" SESSION ON PROPOSAL TO PURCHASE, PRESERVE TURTLE BAY PROPERTY ON O`AHU'S NORTH SHORE
For Immediate Release: February 9, 2008
HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle will host a public “talk story” meeting to discuss the community’s ideas about a proposal to purchase the 850-acre Turtle Bay property, including five miles of pristine coastline on O‘ahu’s North Shore.
The meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Kahuku High School cafeteria.
Since the Governor raised the idea in her State of the State Address on Jan. 22, she has been in discussions with residents, community leaders, legislators, conservationists, nonprofit groups and the private sector on how to purchase the property and protect the natural resources and rural lifestyle of this important area. The talk story is designed to continue this productive dialogue and to hear directly from North Shore residents and leaders regarding the community’s ideas about Turtle Bay.
“Preserving this special part of Hawai‘i will require many discussions with community leaders, legislators and residents statewide,” said Governor Lingle. “This talk story is an opportunity for the North Shore community to voice their opinions and share their ideas on this once-in-a-generation opportunity. I am confident that by working together we can develop a plan to finance the purchase and determine the best way to manage the land.”
