GOVERNOR'S WEST HAWAI`I COMMUNITY ADVISORY COUNCIL TO MEET ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 21
State Department of Health and UH College of Tropical Agriculture will discuss vog-related health and agriculture issues

KAILUA–KONA – The Governor’s West Hawai‘i Community Advisory Council will meet on Wednesday, May 21, at the Ocean View Community Center, 92-8924 Leilani Circle in Ocean View. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
The guest speakers will be John Peard, project manager with the state Department of Health’s Hazard Evaluation and Emergency Response Office; and Kelvin Sewake, county extension agent for UH College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources. They will discuss vog-related concerns regarding health and agriculture. The state departments of Defense, Health, Agriculture, Public Safety, Land and Natural Resources, and Transportation, as well as State Civil Defense continue to provide assistance to Hawai’i County Civil Defense and Mayor Kim’s office to help the County address health and safety issues relating to the increase in vog and lava activity in recent months.
Governor Linda Lingle created community advisory councils to give the neighbor islands a stronger voice in state government. The West Hawai‘i Community Advisory Council holds monthly public meetings to seek community input and advise the Governor of important issues, public priorities, and recommendations for state boards and commissions.
Members of the Governor’s West Hawai‘i Community Advisory Council are Rick Vidgen, Estela Halverson, Lei Kihoi, Glennon Gingo, Dale Fergerstrom and Elaine Watai from Kona; Doug Carr from Waikoloa; Joanne Ralston from Kapa‘au; and Beverly Byouk from Ocean View.
