GOVERNOR LINGLE INVITES PUBLIC COMMENTS ON LEGISLATION

Bills undergoing comprehensive review process

For Immediate Release: May 8, 2009

HONOLULU – As part of the Lingle-Aiona Administration’s comprehensive process of reviewing legislation passed this session by the Legislature, Governor Linda Lingle is encouraging the public to provide input and comments on 250 bills.  A list of these bills may be found at: http://capitol.hawaii.gov/session2009/lists/RptMeasuresPassed.aspx.

The Governor has until July 15 to sign, veto or allow the measures to become law without her signature.

Bills passed by the Legislature are being carefully reviewed by the Governor’s policy team, as well as the Attorney General’s office for legal implications, the Department of Budget and Finance for fiscal and budgetary implications, and appropriate departments and agencies.

As she has done in prior years, the Governor is seeking comments on bills from the public, including individuals, businesses, industry and professional associations, nonprofit groups, and community organizations statewide.  In addition, the Administration is soliciting input from the counties, law enforcement agencies and state boards and commissions.

“I am asking the public to stay engaged in the process,” said Governor Lingle. “My Administration values the public’s input regarding the impact the proposed laws will have on residents, businesses and the future of our state.”

Comments may be sent to the Governor’s office as follows:
