GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $1,777,000 FOR PU`UNENE ARMORY WATER SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS
For Immediate Release: April 17, 2009
HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $1,777,000 in construction funds for water system improvements at the Hawai‘i Army National Guard’s Pu‘unene Armory on Maui.
This project is part of the $1.8 billion public infrastructure construction plan unveiled by Governor Lingle in December 2008 to stimulate the economy and create jobs. Progress of the more than 1,500 projects included in the plan can be tracked on the Governor’s website at www.hawaii.gov/cip.
Maui County’s Department of Water Supply has notified the National Guard that water pressure currently available at the Pu‘unene Armory will be reduced in the future. Existing water systems would be dysfunctional at the lower water pressure, making these improvements critical to the facility’s ongoing operation.
Project improvements will include the construction of a 250,000 gallon fire-flow storage tank and a 3,000 gallon water tank, the installation of water pumps, fire sprinkler pumps and iron water piping, as well as pipe chlorination, landscape irrigation and miscellaneous electrical work.
Governor Lingle previously released $103,000 for project design. The total project cost is estimated to be $1,880,000.
Design for this project is complete. Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2009 and be completed in May 2010.
