GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $710,000 FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENTS AT HAWAI`I ARMY NATIONAL GUARD BUILDINGS
For Immediate Release: November 18, 2009
HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle recently released $710,000 for energy savings improvements and renewable energy projects at Hawai‘i Army National Guard buildings.
The planned projects include the installation of a photovoltaic roof membrane over Building 1898 at Kalaeloa; new heating, ventilation and air conditioning control system at the regional training institute building; and new more efficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning control systems and lighting at Fort Ruger and the Wahiawa Armory. Various projects at neighbor island facilities include new heating, ventilation and air conditioning control systems and photovoltaic systems.
The State funds will be supplemented by $2,350,000 in matching federal funds. The estimated completion date for the projects is November 2010.
The energy efficiency improvements are part of the Lingle-Aiona Administration’s continuing efforts to make State office buildings and facilities more energy efficient in order to reduce electricity costs and decrease Hawai‘i’s dependence on imported fossil fuels. This effort to lead by example supports the Hawai‘i Clean Energy Initiative, which aims to have 70 percent of Hawai‘i’s energy come from clean sources by the year 2030, including 40 percent from renewable energy and 30 percent through energy conservation measures.
