GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $1,000,000 FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO LAUPAHOEHOE POOL

For Immediate Release:  April 10, 2007

HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $1,000,000 for improvements to Laupahoehoe Pool.  The pool is used by both students at Laupahoehoe High and Elementary School and the general public in communities from Pepeekeo to Paauilo on the Honoka‘a Coast.

“As an avid swimmer, I know the value that a multi-use swimming pool can have for the community,” Governor Linda Lingle said.  “The Laupahoehoe Pool serves as a center for healthy recreational activities.  These improvements will ensure the continued use of the facility and make it user-friendly.”

The funds will be used for the design and construction of necessary improvements to the swimming pool and related facilities at Laupahoehoe.  Improvements will include pool basin resurfacing, repairs to the water filtration and circulation systems, re-roofing of and repairs to the pool house, replacement of locker facilities as well as safety modifications to starting blocks and diving boards.

Total cost of the project is estimated at $1,000,000.  Construction is expected to begin in November.  The pool will close during construction.
