For Immediate Release:  June 6, 2007

HONOLULU -- Governor Linda Lingle has named Barbara A. Annis as deputy comptroller and deputy director of the Department of Accounting and General Services (DAGS).

Annis joins the state with 30 years of private sector experience in accounting and finance. Most recently, she was chief executive officer of the law firm of Oliver Lau Lawhn Ogawa and Nakamura.  She also was vice president of finance for Arvak, Inc.  Annis has served as controller for Village Resorts, Inc. and the Outrigger Canoe Club, and was the comptroller of the St. Louis-Chaminade Education Center.  She has also provided business consultant services to various Hawai‘i-based small businesses.

“Barbara’s accounting expertise and management experience will be an asset as she assists the comptroller in the administration of the department and our Administration’s ongoing efforts to improve government efficiency and service to the public,” said Governor Lingle.

Annis is active in various professional organizations, including serving as past president of the Association of Legal Administrators Hawai‘i Chapter and as a member of the National Association of Legal Administrators.  She also is the president of Soroptomist International of Waikiki, Inc. Foundation and is a former member of the board of directors of Waltz Engineering, Inc.

A graduate of the University of Hawai‘i, Annis earned a master of business administration from Chaminade University.

Annis, who started her new position on June 1, replaces Kathi Thomason who resigned to return to the private sector.
