GOVERNOR LINGLE NAMES MEMBERS TO ‘AHA KIOLE ADVISORY COMMITTEE

HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has appointed eight individuals to serve on the ‘Aha Kiole Advisory Committee.  The committee will assist in the formation of an ‘aha moku council system that will serve in an advisory capacity to the Department of Land and Natural Resources on utilizing ancient Hawaiian practices for the management of the state’s natural resources.

The Governor selected the nominees from a list of names provided by the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs.  The members of the ‘Aha Kiole Advisory Committee are:

  • Leslie A. Kuloloio, cultural consultant, Maui
  • Jean Ileialoha Keale Beniamina, associate professor, student services, Kaua‘i Community College, Kaua‘i
  • Winifred I. K. Basques, retired, Lāna‘i Community Hospital, Lāna‘i
  • Vanda Hanakahi, homemaker, community Hawaiian cultural specialist, Moloka‘i
  • Timothy Paulokaleioku Bailey, biological science technician, Haleakalā National Park, Maui
  • Sharon A. Pomroy, Lehua Mamo Flower Farm, Kaua‘i
  • Hugh S. Lovell, agricultural research specialist, Research Corporation University of Hawai‘i, Kamuela, Hawai‘i
  • Charles William Kanaha Kapua, retired, Honolulu Police Department, O‘ahu

The advisory committee will submit a written interim report of its findings and recommendations no later than 20 days prior to the start of the 2008 legislative session.  A final report must be submitted to the Legislature no later than 20 days prior to the start of the 2009 legislative session.
