Public Schedule for the Week of August 24-29, 2009

August 24, Governor Lingle will testify before the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee during a special meeting in Honolulu.  The meeting will be chaired by Senate Appropriations Chairman Daniel Inouye.  The Governor will discuss the State's progress in utilizing federal stimulus dollars provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to stimulate Hawai`i's economy and create jobs.

August 24, Governor Lingle will meet with Margarette Pang, the founder and executive director of the Dyslexia Tutoring Center of Hawai`i Inc.  The center's mission is to help individuals overcome their challenges and difficulties related to dyslexia by tutoring them in reading, writing and spelling utilizing a specialized program. 

August 24, Governor Lingle will discuss state issues in her afternoon drive-time radio show with host Mike Buck from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. HST. The show can be heard live statewide: Hilo (The Beach, KTBH 102.1 FM), Maui (KAOI 1110 AM), Kaua`i (KQNG 570 AM), and O`ahu (KHVH 830 AM), as well as on the Governor's Web site www.hawaii.gov/gov.  Listeners are invited to call 808-521-8383 from O`ahu or 888-565-8383 from the Neighbor Islands with questions and comments. 

August 28, Governor Lingle will participate in the dedication ceremony for the first solar- and wind-powered hydrogen production and fueling station in Hawai`i and the first in use by the U.S. Department of Defense.

August 28, The Governor will present a commendation to the Hawai`i Firefighters Association (HFFA) for their members' continuing support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Hawai`i. The International Association of Firefighters, of which HFFA is an affiliate member, is the single largest sponsor of MDA. Its signature fund-raising activity, the Fill the Boot Drive, will take place at various locations around the state Sept. 4-7 in conjunction with the annual MDA telethon.  Last year the Fill the Boot drive raised about $52,000 for MDA, and organizers hope to raise another $50,000 this year.

August 29, The Governor will join residents and business owners at the 6th annual I Love Liliha Festival. The purpose of the Festival is to bring the community of Liliha together, foster a sense of pride in the area while showcasing some of neighborhood's schools, facilities, civic groups and businesses. 

August 29, Governor Lingle will attend the Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) Hawai`i Chapter's 25th annual banquet.  This year, OCA-Hawai`i will honor Kyo-Ya Management Company with the 2009 Corporate Achievement Award, and Sandy Au Fong, vice president of Market City Shopping Center as the 2009 Community Leader of the Year.
