Public Schedule for the Week of February 21-24, 2009
February 21, Governor Lingle will attend the National Governors Association (NGA) meeting in Washington, D.C. The focus of this year's NGA meeting is rebuilding, repairing and maintaining a national infrastructure system that supports America's economic competitiveness, facilitates economic growth and is environmentally sustainable, which complements the Lingle-Aiona Administration’s ongoing priority to invest in improvements to Hawai`i's infrastructure. The opening day discussions will focus on strengthening the nation's infrastructure, including developing energy infrastructure for the 21st century.
February 22, Governor Lingle will participate in a meeting of the Western Governors Association. The meeting will feature Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, Energy Czar and Assistant to the President Carol Browner and Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar.
- The Governor will also participate in the Economic Development and Commerce Committee meeting, which will focus on recent developments and conditions in the states related to the economy; and the Natural Resources Committee meeting, which will examine how to advance the next generation of energy infrastructure and technology.
February 22, Governor Lingle and the nation's governors will attend a White House dinner hosted by President and Mrs. Obama.
February 23, Governor Lingle and the nation's governors will meet with President Obama and members of his Cabinet at the White House.
February 24, The Governor is scheduled to meet with various officials in Washington, D.C. to discuss issues of importance to Hawai`i, including:
- Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano to discuss Hawai`i's role in homeland security in the Asia-Pacific region.
- Senator Daniel Inouye.
- Senator Daniel Akaka.
February 24, Governor Lingle will be the keynote speaker at the Americans for Tax Reform Policy Roundtable.
