Public Schedule for the Week of July 13-19, 2009

July 13, Governor Lingle will accept the Navigator Award on behalf of the people of Hawai`i from Conde Nast Traveler in recognition of the state's contributions to the tourism industry.  The presentation of the inaugural award is timed to coincide with a story in the magazine's July issue celebrating Hawai`i's 50 years of statehood.

July 14, Governor Lingle will greet Japan's Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko as they arrive in Hawai`i for an official three-day visit. 

July 15, Governor Lingle will attend a wreath-laying ceremony with Japan's Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, she will also host an official state luncheon in their honor. The Governor will also attend a banquet to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Crown Prince Akihito Scholarship Foundation, which promotes understanding between the United States and Japan by offering scholarships for study in Hawai`i and Japan.

July 16, Governor Lingle will bid aloha to Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko as they depart O`ahu and travel to the Kona Coast on the Big Island.

July 17, Governor Lingle will meet with youth from around the world who are participating in the Hawai`i Lions International Youth Camp, which promotes international understanding and goodwill.  The four-week camp brings together youth to foster leadership, friendship and understanding.  The youth will also have an opportunity to learn about Hawai`i's culture, history, government and lifestyle.

July 17, Governor Lingle will congratulate the Queen's Medical Center family for 150 years of providing health care to the people of Hawai`i. 

July 19, The Governor will participate in a tea ceremony for world peace organized by the Urasenke Foundation of Hawai`i, a school devoted to the Japanese tea ceremony.
