Public Schedule for the Week of July 20-24, 2009

July 20, Governor Lingle and State Adjutant General will hold a news conference regarding special needs and pet emergency shelters. They will be joined by representatives from the State Civil Defense, American Red Cross, Hawaiian Humane Society, Department of Health, Department of Education, and other community, public and private sector partners – as well as pets.

July 20, Governor Lingle will discuss state issues in her afternoon drive-time radio show with host Mike Buck from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. HST. The show can be heard live statewide: Hilo (The Beach, KTBH 102.1 FM), Maui (KAOI 1110 AM), Kaua`i (KQNG 570 AM), and O`ahu (KHVH 830 AM).

July 22, The Governor will meet with eight Hawai`i students who recently returned from Fukuoka, Japan, where they served as junior ambassadors and represented Hawai`i at the annual Asian-Pacific Children's Convention.  Each year, the Governor meets with the junior ambassadors before they leave and upon their return to hear the students' impressions about Japan and their home-stay exchange experience. The program is coordinated by the Japan-America Society of Hawai`i.

July 23, Governor Lingle will welcome the USS Hawai`i (SSN 776), the first Virginia-class submarine to be home-ported in the Pacific, as it arrives in Hawai`i. The state's namesake submarine will make Hawai`i its home during the 50th Anniversary of Statehood Commemoration activities.  Governor Lingle is the ship's sponsor. 

July 24, Governor Lingle will meet with Incoming University of Hawai`i President Dr. M. R. C. Greenwood who will begin leading the 10-campus UH system on Aug. 1.
