COUNCIL OF NEIGHBOR ISLAND ADVISORS - KAUA`I
The Council of Neighbor Island Advisors - Kaua`i helps the Lingle-Aiona Administration identify issues of importance to the community and recommends ways to improve state government and enhance the quality of life for all Hawai`i residents. The Council is tasked with providing the Governor with a list of short- and long-term issues and goals that should be addressed by state government. The Council is also responsible for identifying spending priorities and potential new sources of revenue for the state, as well as recommending potential nominees from the neighbor islands to serve on state boards and commissions.

Governor Linda Lingle appointed nine volunteers to serve on the Council of Neighbor Island Advisors - Kaua`i. The members include individuals with expertise in business, education, native Hawaiian issues, social services, arts and culture, energy, agriculture and the environment.

Stewart Burley – Consultant, Strategic Theories Unlimited. Past experience: Hawai‘i region director, Envisioneering, Inc.; marketing director, supervisory program analyst, Pacific Missile Range Facility; U.S. Navy.
Linda Collins – Retired: President and CEO, Kikiaola Land Company, Ltd., Waimea Plantation Cottages, Waimea Plantation Community Development, Lodge and Koke‘e Concession. Past experience: business owner, Floral One Interiorscape; assistant editor, Aloha Magazine; educator, St. Andrew’s Priory.
James Itamura (chair) – Attorney. Past experience: Public Defender’s Office, County Council Services.
Barbara Makaala Kaaumoana – Executive director, Hanalei Watershed Hui. Past experience: program coordinator, Hanalei Heritage River Program; vice chair, Hui Ho‘omalu I Ka ‘Aina; retired special education teacher, Novato Unified School District, California.
Solette Harvest Perry – Hawai‘i Health Systems Personnel.
Barbara Smith – Retired teacher, Hanalei Elementary School.
Matt Takata – Senior vice president, Title Guaranty Escrow Services.
Public Meetings
The Council of Neighbor Island Advisors - Kaua`i holds public meetings on the second Thursday of every month at 5:00 p.m.

Guest speakers from the community, including members of the Governor’s cabinet, provide the Council with updates on issues of interest and concern. The public is invited to attend the meetings, provide testimony and ask questions.
