COUNCIL OF NEIGHBOR ISLAND ADVISORS - MAUI
The Council of Neighbor Island Advisors - Maui helps the Lingle-Aiona Administration identify issues of importance to the community and recommends ways to improve state government and enhance the quality of life for all Hawai`i residents. The Council is tasked with providing the Governor with a list of short- and long-term issues and goals that should be addressed by state government. The Council is also responsible for identifying spending priorities and potential new sources of revenue for the state, as well as recommending potential nominees from the neighbor islands to serve on state boards and commissions.

Governor Linda Lingle appointed nine volunteers to serve on the Council of Neighbor Island Advisors - Maui. The members include individuals with expertise in business, education, native Hawaiian issues, social services, arts and culture, energy, agriculture and the environment.

Kay Ghean – Retired, IBM Corporation.
John Henry – Photographer, John Henry Photography, Inc.
Carl Lindquist – Owner, Hana Coast Realty, Inc.; founding partner, Hana Coast Gallery. Past experience: vice president and general manager, Hotel Hana-Maui; president, Trade Publishing Company; U.S. Air Force.
Lorraine Sablas – Director of Po‘okela, Ka‘anapali Beach Hotel. Past experience: director of leisure sales, Stouffer Wailea Beach Resort; managing director, Ka‘anapali Beach Operators Association.
Madge Schaefer (chair) – Retired. Past experience: member and chair, Ventura County (California) Board of Supervisors; mayor and councilmember, City of Thousand Oaks, California; editorial columnist, Scripps Newspapers.
Gail Takeuchi – Counselor, Lahainaluna High School.
Leona Rocha Wilson – Retired. Past experience: national spokesperson for Vogue/Butterick New York, Simplicity New York; business owner, Fashionetic, Inc. New York; patent holder, “Fashion Ruler;” national president, American Home Sewing Association; national television host, “The Sewing Show.”
Public Meetings
The Council of Neighbor Island Advisors - Maui holds public meetings on the third Thursday of every month at 5:00 p.m.

Guest speakers from the community, including members of the Governor’s cabinet, provide the Council with updates on issues of interest and concern. The public is invited to attend the meetings, provide testimony and ask questions.
