October 8, 2009 - Governor's Weekly Radio Address - Clean Energy: Leading by Example
Click here to listen to this address.
Aloha,
The Hawai`i Clean Energy Initiative's goal of achieving 70 percent clean energy by the year 2030 has become the blueprint for our state's pro-active energy policy.
State departments succeeded in reducing energy usage by six percent this year and we just announced a program which is expected to save an additional 6.3 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year, reducing our state utility bills by 30 percent.
By making State office buildings and facilities more energy efficient, we are saving taxpayer money on the State's electricity bills while reinvesting in the infrastructure of our public buildings. This action-oriented commitment to decrease Hawai`i's dependence on imported oil highlights how the state is leading by example to secure a clean energy future.
I encourage you to learn more, and to do more, to conserve energy in your homes, offices and schools.
Mahalo. This is Governor Linda Lingle.
