GOVERNOR'S MAUI COMMUNITY ADVISORY COUNCIL'S FEBRUARY 21 MEETING TO FOCUS ON HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENTS AND PUBLIC HOUSING

WAILUKU – The Governor’s Maui Community Advisory Council will meet on Thursday, February 21, 2008, 5:00 p.m. at the Lahaina Civic Center Social Hall, located at 1840 Honoapi‘ilani Highway in Lahaina. The public is invited to attend.
The meeting will feature Brennon Morioka, interim director, Department of Transportation, who will discuss various highway improvement projects in West Maui, including: Lahaina Bypass Phase 1, Lahainaluna to Keawe Street; Honoapi‘ilani Highway Widening, Lahainaluna Rd. to Aholo Street; Honoapi‘ilani Highway erosion control measures Launiupoko to Olowalu; status of environmental impact study for Olowalu to Ukumehame project; and Honoapi‘ilani Highway Pali section Ukumehame to Maalaea.
As a follow-up to the council’s January 17 meeting on public housing, representatives from the Hawai‘i Public Housing Authority (HPHA) will be available to answer questions. They include Travis Thompson, board chair; Chad Taniguchi, executive director; and Ione Godsey, public housing supervisor HPHA’s Maui Asset Management Project.
Governor Linda Lingle created community advisory councils to give the neighbor islands a stronger voice in state government. The Maui Community Advisory Council holds monthly public meetings to seek community input and advise the Governor of important issues on Maui, public priorities, and recommendations for state boards and commissions.
The members of the Governor’s Maui Community Advisory Council are: Kathryn Ghean, John Henry, Barbara-Ann Keller, Carl Lindquist, Lori Ululani Sablas, Madge Schaefer (chair), Kalei Sombelon (vice chair), Shan Steinmark, and Gail Takeuchi.
