Aloha,
In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, our hearts and prayers are with our fellow Americans in the Gulf states as they recover from this horrific tragedy.
Thirteen years ago this week, Hawai`i was coping with the aftermath of Hurricane Inkiki, which devastated Kaua`i and Leeward O`ahu. While our residents pulled together to help one another, caring people from across the country aided in the recovery effort.
Now an outpouring of Aloha from Hawai`i is helping the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
A 10-member Hawai`i Disaster Medical Assistance Team as well as officials from the American Red Cross Hawaii Chapter have been mobilized to assist in the relief effort. In addition, the Hawai`i National Guard has received an alert from the National Guard Bureau and stands ready to assist.
To make a donation or to find out how you can assist, contact the American Red Cross at 1-800-HELP-NOW, or visit www.USAfreedomcorps.gov.
In this time of national need, let us come together as Americans to show our unity and resolve.
Mahalo. This is Lt. Governor Aiona.
