Aloha,

We know the economic downturn is causing a strain on families and businesses, and we're doing our best every day to change that downward trend.

Despite unprecedented budget restrictions, my cabinet directors are working with their dedicated employees to find common-sense solutions to the real challenges facing our state.

The Department of Transportation is working diligently to make roads safer and less congested. Our energy division is developing ways to create more renewable sources of energy and greater efficiency. Our Health, Human Services and Public Safety departments are providing ongoing services to ensure the health, safety and well-being of our residents. Other departments are moving to online services to cut down on paperwork and save you money.

This is an unprecedented time in our state's history and a difficult time for many. We in state government are finding ways to provide the services you expect today, while also planning for tomorrow.

Mahalo. This is Governor Linda Lingle.
