October 15, 2009 - Governor's Weekly Radio Address - Keiki Flu Vaccination: Safe Prevention

Aloha,

Ensuring the health of our keiki is a top priority for my Administration. Through a partnership with the Departments of Health and Education, as well as independent schools, the state is providing Hawai`i's students with free seasonal flu vaccinations.

Studies show school children vaccinated for flu have fewer illnesses, fewer school absences and lower rates of illness in their families during flu season, compared with unvaccinated children.

The State Department of Health will also be offering school-based H1N1 flu vaccination clinics. We are urging parents to look for, sign and return consent forms so their children can receive the H1N1 flu vaccination.

Getting vaccinated for both the seasonal flu and H1N1 is a safe, common sense, preventative step that can help keep our community healthy. For information about getting vaccinated, visit www.flu.hawaii.gov or call 2-1-1.

Mahalo. This is Governor Linda Lingle.
