Plane on the runway is one of the first Hawaiian Airlines planes to arrive at Kailua, Kona Airport on its opening day, July 10, 1949.
This aerial photo shows the nearly 4,000 people who attended the colorful opening ceremony of the new airport in Kailua-Kona, July 10, 1949, bringing a new era to the quiet district and famed tourist attraction. On the field are service and civilian transport planes. In the background are Kailua Bay and the town.
