Lt. Ben Cassiday
Lt. Ben Cassiday was the first person in Hawaii to parachute from a balloon.
Colonel Ben Cassiday (left) (then a Lt.) was a member of the Hawaiian Air Depot which was established in Honolulu, in July, 1921, under the guidance of Major John B. Brooks as a member of the 3rd Balloon Company. Married on October 18, 1921, “. . . three days later I made the first military parachute jump from a balloon in Hawaii, as part of a military review,” Cassiday reported.
