New Frontiers in Maternal and Infant Health Care: Ethics, Outcomes and Practices in the 21st Century
This conference will provide clinical perinatal and pediatric providers and community at large with the unique opportunity to learn about cutting edge research and policies that can be or are already being implemented here in Hawaii. It is designed for the medical community of clinical practitioners, nurses, OB-GYNs. pediatricians, psychologists, psychatrists, as well as social workers, students, health policy leaders and community agency professionals.
8th Annual Celebrate Father's Day and Father -Child Look-Alike Contest (Pearlridge Uptown Stage)
June 2006 is being proclaimed as Father's Month in Hawaii and Honolulu by Governor Lingle, Lt. Governor, Mayor Hannemann, and the Honolulu City Council. - Celebrate fathers with great entertainment, fun activities, games, prizes, and information tables for dads, father-figures, children, teens, and families.

Maui County Children's Justice Committee "Increasing Protective Factors for Children & Families in the Era of Methamphetamine & Other Drug Abuse"
There will be three presenters; Dr. Chris Derauf, M.D. will present recent findings related to research about risk and resilience in children and how research findings can be translated into interventions and social policy decisions that enhance the health and well being of children. Dr. Gina French, M.D. will present on how to help families whose children have externalizing behavior problems and how to help mothers who may not yet know how great our help will be. Dr. Leslie Hartkey Gise, M.D. will present that substance abuse in women is different from that in men. There will be a cost for training. Register early.

Judiciary-Maui Drug Court: Working Effectively in Reducing and Preventing Prenatal Smoking
This training will be presented by Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Coalition of Hawai`i and is intended to support staff in working effectively on smoking cessation isues with their clients/patients. The purpose of this workshop is to provide access to effective tobacco interventions and other community resources on smoking in pregnancy and effects of second-hand smoke on their infants/children. Registration is extremely limited (under 10 individuals)

2006 Youth Services Summit
Young people are our valuable resource, and they hold the key to the future of our communities, our nation and our world. Today's youth need guidance, support and opportunities more than ever, and with this support they will flourish and develop the assurance they need to succeed and become self-sufficient. However, the challenge lies not only with the creation of the programs, but also in compiling sufficient data to analyze and evaluate the programs. Learning how to measure outcomes and results is essential to the success of your agency or organization.

In conjunction with the Hawaii Drug Control Plan and in the spirit of collaboration and cooperation, the Office of Lieutenant Governor James R. "Duke" Aiona would like to extend an invitation to all organizations to submit a request to post on the Lieutenant Governor’s website, announcement of events for dissemination to the public.  All events shall address substance abuse prevention, treatment, underage drinking and law enforcement.
