Grant Guidelines, Information and Deadlines:

The grant guidelines provide background information about the minimum requirements that must be met to be eligible for us to consider your grant application. The grant deadlines provide detailed information about the schedules and deadlines of the grant application process. The grant guidelines and deadlines are subject to change. Our foundation is still young and our focus, requirements and procedures will evolve as we gain experience in the area of grant making.

Guidelines

The initial focus of our contributions and grants will be education, environment and health although our interests are fairly diverse and may lead us into other areas on an occasional basis.

Nonprofit organizations that qualify for public charity status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or public schools and libraries are eligible for contributions or grants.

For-profit businesses are not eligible.

Unsolicited grant requests will be accepted for all grant cycles.

Only United States or United States based international organizations are eligible.

Grants are not awarded to individuals, or for political lobbying, political campaign or voter registration purposes.

Contribution and grant amounts will vary. The duration of grants will be typically for a single year.

Program Related Investments are not currently made.

The Lawrence Foundation is not currently a member of a common grant community of grantmakers. All grant applications must be submitted directly to us at the Contact Address for consideration.

Information

We receive many grant requests and letters of inquiry by mail and email during our grant cycles. The following table lists the number of requests and letters of inquiry we have received during each cycle and the corresponding number of commitments and/or grants we made in that same cycle. Commitments are grants we have told an organization that we will be paying in the future. Commitments are listed in Part XV 3 "Grants and Contributions Paid During the Year or Approved for Future Payment" of our 2002 990-PF. Grants are paid either during or at the end of our grant cycle. Deadlines

Grants are awarded twice a year. There is a one or two step process 1) a letter of inquiry and in some cases 2) a request for a full proposal. Letters of inquiry are open to any organization that wishes to be considered for a grant that meets the grant guidelines. In many cases the letter of inquiry provides sufficient information to make a decision. In some cases we may ask for a full proposal to provide additional information to make a decision. If you do not receive an invitation to submit a full proposal that does not necessarily mean your letter or inquiry is not under consideration. The calendar for this process is:

June Grant Cycle December Grant Cycle
Letters of inquiry due by: Feb 1 Aug 1
Board selection from letters of inquiry Feb/Mar Aug/Sept
Invitation to submit full proposal (if needed) mailed by: Mar 31 Sept 30
Full proposal (if needed) due by: Apr 30 Oct 31
Board selection from full proposals: Apr/May Oct/Nov
Notification of selection mailed by: Jun Dec
Funding by: Jun 30 Dec 31

Any letters of inquiry received after a deadline will be considered during the next grant cycle.
